ABD’S TYPING TUTOR · USER GUIDE
Learn to type, one comfortable step at a time
This guide explains practice, tests, keyboards, games and your records in Arabic, Bangla and Urdu. Start slowly. Accurate typing is more useful than a fast score with many mistakes.
1. Get started
- Open Practice & tests. Sign in, or choose Create account on the sign-in page.
- Choose Arabic, Bangla or Urdu. Each language has its own lessons and progress.
- Choose a practice category, a lesson and a time. Untimed learning lets you concentrate on completing the passage.
- Check the input method. For Bangla, device keyboard input is the default. You must enable a Bangla keyboard on your device to use it.
- Select Prepare practice, then type in the lower box. Your first input starts the clock.
- Use Finish & save when you want to stop. A correctly completed guided passage is saved automatically.
Keep me signed in keeps the sign-in session for up to 30 days, subject to your browser retaining its cookies. Leave it off on a shared computer. Sign out through your username menu when finished.
2. Find your way around
The left panel contains the languages, learning path and categories. On a wide screen, lesson choices, timing, statistics and saving are in the right panel. The centre contains the lesson passage, your typing box and the keyboard underneath.
On smaller screens, controls move above the practice area. The text areas wrap long lines. As you type, the lesson passage follows your progress and your typing box follows the cursor. This scrolls inside the boxes; it does not move the whole webpage.
The on-screen keyboard is a guide and can also be clicked. Its Latin labels show the English physical keys for the built-in layout. The grey symbols show the Shift layer. Choose Shift layer to display it; choose Main layer to return. Urdu also has an AltGr layer where available.
3. Choose a lesson
| Category | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Letters and numbers | Learn individual keys and digits. |
| Two-letter combinations | Practise moving between two characters. |
| Three-letter combinations | Build smoother, longer key movements. |
| Words | Practise useful words and common patterns. |
| Sentences | Add spaces, punctuation and connected language. |
| Short paragraphs | Develop a steady rhythm over several sentences. |
| Long paragraphs | Practise sustained reading and typing. |
| Typing tests | Measure speed and accuracy under a time limit. |
Words, Sentences, Short paragraphs, Long paragraphs and Typing tests open in a shuffled order. Next shuffled lesson moves through the current round without repeating a lesson. A new round is shuffled again. Reopening the category creates a fresh order. You can still choose a particular lesson from the list.
Shuffling changes the lesson order, not the words inside a sentence or paragraph. A tick beside a lesson means you have practised it; it does not mean you have mastered it. The learning-path recommendation can suggest a particular unfinished lesson even when the category list is shuffled.
4. Practise particular letters or numbers
For Letters and numbers, Two-letter combinations and Three-letter combinations, open Practise particular letters or numbers.
- Leave Practice source on App default lesson for a prepared lesson.
- Or choose My chosen characters. Click the characters or digits you want. A selected button changes colour. Click it again to remove it.
- Use Select all or Clear selection if helpful. Select at least one character.
- Choose your time and select Prepare practice. ATT generates a fresh exercise using your selection. Two- and three-letter categories group the selected characters into combinations.
These personal drills have their own saved records. They do not count towards mastering a prepared library lesson. Available character groups depend on the language; the picker does not contain every possible vowel mark or conjunct. Use a relevant default lesson or custom text for patterns outside the picker.
5. Choose your keyboard
Open Custom text & typing options and find Keyboard input. Games have an Input selector beside their controls. A message beside the typing box shows the active method.
| Input method | What you do |
|---|---|
| Device keyboard / IME | Enable the language keyboard on your computer or phone. ATT accepts the text it produces. ATT does not convert English physical keys in this mode. |
| Built-in layout / ATT built-in keyboard | Use your device’s English keyboard. ATT maps those keys to Arabic 101, Bangla Bijoy-style or Urdu phonetic characters. You can also click the on-screen keys. |
Bangla defaults to device input. Arabic and Urdu default to built-in input. A choice you make is remembered for that language in the same browser; clearing browser storage removes the preference. Change the input method before you start a session.
Bangla
For device input, select a Unicode Bangla keyboard. On Windows, use the language switcher or your installed typing software’s switching shortcut. Test it in a plain text editor: it should produce readable Bangla, not legacy font-encoded characters. A device Bijoy layout and ATT’s built-in layout need not use identical composition rules.
Independent vowels and vowel signs are different: ই in বই is not the vowel sign ি in কি. Let your device keyboard finish composing vowels, conjuncts and dotted letters such as য়, ড়, ঢ়. Do not insert spaces inside a letter to make it look correct.
Arabic and Urdu
These languages display from right to left. For device input, enable the correct language on your device. For built-in input, keep the physical keyboard in English and follow ATT’s key guide. Urdu uses the phonetic layout; Arabic uses Arabic 101. Punctuation and shifted characters may differ between layouts.
If letters or marks look wrong in built-in Bangla, switch to device input for reliable practice while the built-in composition issue is investigated. This guide does not claim that every built-in Bangla composition problem has been resolved.
6. Type and correct text
The upper box is the passage to copy. The lower box is your own text. Follow the full text, including spaces, marks and punctuation. Green marks correct text; red indicates a difference. The current position is highlighted. In free typing, the passage continues to follow your typing even if an earlier mistake remains.
Strict correction is optional in guided practice and is off by default. When enabled, it blocks incorrect input. Some unfinished vowels or combining marks are temporarily allowed while you compose the full character. When strict correction is off, you can type freely and correct mistakes afterwards.
Backspace removes a character or mark. It may take more than one press to remove a composed letter. You can move the cursor or select text to correct it. Completing a passage means matching the whole passage, not merely reaching its end.
Do not paste or drag text into an active typing box. To practise copied material, paste it into Your custom text first, then prepare a custom test. If an input method is composing a character, finish that composition before changing controls.
7. Understand your results
| Measurement | Meaning |
|---|---|
| WPM | Words per minute. ATT uses groups of five correctly typed text clusters for a consistent speed measure; it is not a count of dictionary words. |
| Final accuracy | How closely your saved text matches the passage after your corrections. |
| First-attempt accuracy | How accurately you entered text initially. Correcting an error improves the final text but does not erase the original mistake. |
| Mistakes made / corrections / blocked attempts | Different parts of your editing history. A blocked attempt is recorded even though it did not remain in the box. |
| Progress | The proportion of the passage currently correct. Wrong or extra text can prevent full completion. |
| Text cluster | A letter together with its related marks or joining parts, treated as a useful unit for practice. |
A dash means that a measurement was not recorded, rather than a score of zero. Older records keep their original measurements.
8. Progress and mastery
Open Progress and choose a language. Comparable tests compares the same standard test passage version and time limit. Learning accuracy focuses on practice accuracy. Session history includes early finishes, custom sessions and older records.
A prepared library lesson is mastered after two correctly completed practice sessions with at least 97% first-attempt accuracy. Merely opening a lesson, obtaining a tick, or fixing many mistakes at the end does not meet that requirement. Games, custom tests and selected-character drills do not add library-lesson mastery.
Continue learning suggests an unfinished lesson. Practise weak letters builds a revision exercise from your recorded mistakes, with relevant words and sentences where available. You need saved practice before ATT can identify a revision focus.
9. Timed and custom tests
Select Typing tests, choose a passage and a time, then select Prepare test. The first input starts the clock. The session saves when time runs out. Finish early if necessary, but an early finish will not enter a standard benchmark.
For your own material, open Custom text & typing options, paste between 2 and 12,000 characters in Your custom text and select Prepare custom test. Custom tests need a time limit. ATT repeats test material to provide enough text for a timed session. Custom results stay in history, separate from comparable standard tests.
For a fair personal comparison, use the same language, test passage and time. Changing a test’s stored text creates a different benchmark series; your earlier results remain in history.
10. Play the games
Open Games, select a language, game, practice type and level, then start. Available practice types include letters only, letters and numbers, words and sentences. Check the rules shown for the selected game.
Typing Race
Type the full passage correctly to move your car to the finish. The computer travels at a fixed speed. Adjust Computer WPM before starting. The untimed introduction removes the opponent’s deadline.
Falling Stars
Targets fall through a night sky. Choose any visible star by typing its first character, or tap it, then complete its text before it reaches the bottom line. If several targets share the same beginning, continue typing to distinguish them or tap the one you want.
Balloon Shooting
Choose a balloon in the same way, then type its full text before it reaches the top line. The balloons rise instead of falling. The last caught text can remain faintly in the box until you begin the next target.
Levels, scoring and saving
Untimed introduction provides a gentle start. Easy, Medium and Hard increase the challenge; the number, movement speed and available targets depend on the game. Stars and balloons normally last 60 seconds. Catching a target earns points; consecutive catches build a streak bonus and a miss resets it.
Use Pause to take a break, then resume. Paused time is excluded from active time. Reduced motion offers a less animated presentation. Finish and save before starting again. Saved games appear in game history and can be exported there. Game results do not alter lesson mastery, typing-test personal bests or leaderboards.
11. Challenges and live races
Open Compete to create a passage challenge. Choose the language, text and duration. Share its link with people you want to invite. They must sign in to take part.
A normal challenge lets people try the same passage. A live race brings participants together. Join before the host starts the countdown, then wait for it to finish. Your typing box is enabled when the race starts. The live display updates participants’ progress and results. A started live race cannot accept new participants.
Keep your internet connection available. If the start or save request fails, read the status message and retry as directed. Do not close the tab while unsaved text remains.
12. Save and export your records
Your account stores saved sessions on the server, so sign in to the same account on another device to see them. Active, unsaved text remains in the open tab and is not a reliable cross-device draft. Refreshing or closing it can lose that work.
Open your username menu for Export records (CSV), which downloads your saved practice/test results, and Personal archive (JSON; no import), which includes your own practice records and games. Games also have their own CSV export on the Games page.
These exports contain only your account’s records. A personal JSON archive is for keeping or reviewing your data; ATT has no user-facing import/restore button for it. It is not a complete application backup.
13. A useful practice routine
- Spend two minutes on a few letters or combinations.
- Practise words or a short passage for five minutes. Keep a steady rhythm.
- Review your weak letters and repeat a small exercise.
- Occasionally take the same standard timed test to measure change fairly.
- Use a short game for variety. Stop when tired rather than practising rushed errors.
14. Frequently asked questions
Why do English letters appear when I try Bangla?
You are probably using Device keyboard / IME while your device is still in English. Enable Unicode Bangla on your device, or select ATT’s built-in layout before starting.
Why are unexpected characters appearing with my device’s Bangla keyboard?
Check that ATT is set to Device keyboard / IME. Using a device language converter and ATT’s physical-key converter together can give unexpected results. Also check that your device is producing Unicode rather than legacy font-encoded text.
Why does য় have a detached dot, or a vowel look separate?
This can indicate an incomplete composition, an editing problem or a built-in input issue. Use device input with a Unicode Bangla keyboard. Note the word, input method and keys used, and report the problem with a screenshot. Do not replace a required letter with a visually similar one merely to pass the lesson.
Do I need to press Enter at the end of every visible line?
No. The boxes wrap text automatically. Press Enter only where the lesson actually contains a paragraph or line break. Both boxes follow progress automatically.
Can I scroll back to read earlier text?
Yes. Scroll the passage manually to review it. The next typing input brings the current practice position back into view. Long passages may show a moving window of text around your current position.
Why does the typing box not accept input?
Sign in, prepare a lesson and click the typing box. Check the status message. A finished, saving, paused or not-yet-started race can disable input. If strict correction blocks keys, finish the session and turn it off before preparing another lesson. If input still fails, report the language, input method and browser.
Why is my first-attempt accuracy lower than my final accuracy?
You corrected mistakes. Final accuracy describes the resulting text; first-attempt accuracy keeps a record of the original errors so your progress is meaningful.
Why is a saved session missing from Comparable tests?
It may be practice, a custom test, an early finish, an older record or a different passage version/time limit. Look in Session history and check the language filter.
Why is a ticked lesson not mastered?
A tick means it has a saved attempt. Mastery needs two full, correct practice sessions with at least 97% first-attempt accuracy.
Can I change the input method halfway through a lesson?
Finish and save first, change the method, then prepare the next session. Controls are locked during active typing to keep the session consistent.
Can I carry on after saving?
Prepare another session. Where offered, use Next shuffled lesson or the repeat button. Saving closes the current input record; a new session starts a new record.
Does ATT save if I close the tab?
Do not rely on it. Use Finish & save and wait for the success message. If saving fails, keep the tab open and retry. Your active text is not silently stored as a recoverable draft.
What should I do after an update looks wrong?
Save your active work, then reload the page. If necessary, perform a hard refresh. Include your screen size, zoom level and a screenshot when reporting layout problems.
I forgot my password. Can I reset it here?
ATT does not currently offer a self-service email password reset. Contact an authorised administrator. Never share your password in a help message.
